Day 36, Level 1: Covid case, $1m, Mask and Harper Finn "Dance Away These Days"
Well we're definitely not out of the woods yet ... a community Covid case today with unclear origin. The CBD is closed with workers asked to work from home tomorrow. The person visited a number of eateries, lives in an apartment block and was part of a fire evacuation where people from that apartment mingled with the next door quarantine hotel facility!!! What!?!?
Apparently she rang in sick when she got symptoms (from wherever she picked them up from) but her boss obviously said she had to come in - and wear a mask. Big mistake.
We shall see where all this goes - but Auckland may head back into Level 2, or even 3, depending on what the next day or two brings.
Funny, as I was just typing up today's Day 36, Level 1 heading - and thinking hmmm, I wonder if/when I'm going to be typing in Level 2 ... or do I just ditch the level thing. The voice inside me said keep the Level, it's still relevant.
There are also two positive cases in Wellington - who also dined out and about.
It ain't over yet ...
So today the median house price in Auckland hit $1m. Average salary $66k = 15x salary
Median house price NZ - $675k = 10x salary
Auckland is nice - but these figures are ludicrously ridiculous. On a par with London. And dearer than New York.
I took my car for its Warrant of Fitness today - I was thinking it may need a new tyre - but it didn't. It just needed a headlight adjustment and polish. Excellent!
Raced home from that to meet the driveway contractor head chap Dave (who is excellent) and the sparky re the sensor lights going in. Progress being made.
Then raced to my old school (Epsom Girls Grammar) to do duty as Co-President to present a Scholarship to a girl who is going to be boarding in the hostel next year. A nice lunch function where the girls and their parents attend and find out more about boarding life and the school.
I've done this for the past several years and it's always a nice occasion. The girls are nervous - it reminds me of when I was their age (11/12) and preparing to go to high school. Quite a daunting thing. And these girls are about to leave home and go boarding next year. I could never have coped with that.
Here's a random photo of a mask I made for the Mayoress' Ball way back in 2012!
It looks heavy and cumbersome - but it wasn't - I wore it all night long! |
SHARE-NOTE OF THE DAY:
Harper Finn ...
He's Tim Finn's son (of Splitz Enz fame) - and he's awesome. (Looks very much like his dad!)
Harper is only 21 - and boy can he sing!
Here's a link to his fab song "Dance Away These Days" - both the song and the video have an easy 80s vibe. Love it. Definitely an earworm - and I want to dance to this some time soon!
This song is in my head all the time - and it makes me smile - and want to dance!
Love the simplicity of the video - the groovy dance moves - the casual vibe - the 80s throw-back ...
And the melody, words and sentiment of the song are brilliant. All about putting your bloody phone away and getting dancing instead! Yesssssss!
You've got to take a listen - and be transported to the glorious 80s!

Below is a link to his latest song "Good For Me" released end October - the curly hair mop has gone and this is more of a ballad. His voice is superb.
