Day 55, Level 1: Wind, Moon, reconnection and packing to and fro

Well I got up at precisely 2.22am - all I saw was a dull black sky and a wet deck - it wasn't raining and it was calm-as but there was no bright moon in the sky. This Blue Moon was a rare dud.

By early morning the wind was honking.  Especially across the causeway - OMG this was a buffet-your-car-bigtime type of wind.

Tonight, however, back in Auckland, the Full Moon is exquisite and shining bright. No wind whatsoever, a cloudless sky and a big golden globe in the sky. Perhaps this November Full Moon didn't like being Blue and/or Penumbrical Eclipsical or whatever.

There was more work to be done on the Omaha newsletter and I was full-on with it. Mid-morning I went and visited an old friend from early Omaha days who now lives not far away - Greg and I had birthdays 11 days apart, we both played guitar and were good mates back in the old days. Today, I saw him for the first time in 40 years - well, we'd caught up once at his brother Bill's 30th. But this wasn't a party situation. We laughed and reminisced and caught up on life and kids and whatnot. It was gentle and poignant and there wasn't one awkward moment even though our lives had taken such different paths and we were not the teenagers of the 1970s. A special reconnection indeed.

More work, frantic last minute, deadline work. Sent of copy. Yay.

The weather was blah so working was fine. Did other work.

Then the sun came out. I thought the wind would still be honking on the beach but in fact it wasn't. The beach was in stunning form, calm and colourful in the most gorgeous muted beachy tones that exist. It truly looked like a sub-tropical paradise today. No one there! And I almost gave it a miss due to being too busy. Thank God I got down there to see this Tuesday glory.

I bought an egg benedict bagel from the Omaha Beach Cafe - I'd also bought a newspaper from the Superette so thought I'd eat it at the cafe while reading the latest news. Otherwise I thought I may not get to read the newspaper I'd bought. Delicious and relaxing and enlightening.

More work to do and then time to pack up as I really did have to head home. I'd washed sheets, tidied and cleaned etc.

SHARE-NOTE OF THE DAY:
Packing up ...

This packing up thing to move from place to another is intriguing, especially when you know you'll be back soon. Thing is, there's also that chance you may not be, for uncertain reasons (i.e. Covid!) So there's a balance between having everything you REALLY need with you here or there, and not caring about the stuff that can be either here or there.

I think, after virtually a year of working this way, I've got it down pat. But I also am alarmed at how much stuff I transport to and fro - most of it is work stuff, papers, projects, info - stuff I need on a daily basis no matter what.

The clothes and toiletries really don't matter, I have stuff at Omaha and home to suffice. And of course, getting what you don't have these days is easy - it's all a stone's throw away. This is a far cry from the early days in Omaha where there was nothing upon nothing and you had to take EVERYTHING with you.  The food to-ing and fro-ing is interesting - some stuff is fine to leave for several days, other stuff needs to come back with me. It's a juggling and balancing act - and the more I do it the more I have it sussed.

And the more I just want to get back up to Omaha! And stay there forever! (Ahem, that is until we can start travelling overseas again ... that's what I'm really hanging out for!)
