Day 34, Level 1: Rain, trotting, wall progress and motherly advice!
Rain rain rain ... we need you but we want you to go away.
Napier is completely flooded, with two months of rain in 24-hours. There is water everywhere.
Today in Auckland it was freezing. I was rugged up like winter. Late afternoon I resorted to putting the heating on as rain continued to fall and thunder clapped.
Welcome to NZ spring!
Today was the NZ Trotting Cup held at Addington in Christchurch - it's a huge day every year, and great that it could go ahead. There was a limit of 12,000 people on course (due to Covid) - but not a mask in sight. It was cold down there but by the look of things everyone was having a great time even those in a thin piece of silk.
A horse called Self Assured won - easily, with great self confidence! I don't really follow the trots so didn't know any of the horses but I did tune in for the big race.
Did lots of editing and writing today while it poured down outside. Being inside in my office wasn't so bad - and I got lots done.
The driveway men were out there working away and made really good progress with the wall, despite the weather. It's looking good. You can why it's been so fiddly for the guys with the slope they have to work with.
Once the wall is stained and driveway is down, it will be looking very sharp indeed! There'll be some security lighting etc. Still lots more to do until it's complete - but it's well on the way.
Quiz tonight - some tricky rounds and we came 7th - but only 6 points behind the winning score. Had another fun night.
I had the butter chicken tonight - their offering is very authentic and absolutely delicious, made by their Indian chef. Yum.
SHARE-NOTE OF THE DAY:
Listen to your mother ...!
If it doesn't go so well for you first time you try it,
Give it another go - the way your mother suggested in the first place!
