Day 59, Level 1: To Omaha, Doorbell, Masks and Flying Fish
Work, pack up, head north. I left the city around 3ish and had a good journey all the way to Warkworth, where I called into the Mitre 10 Mega to get some bits. The main mission was to get a doorbell for Omaha - in the summer with doors open, a friendly shout or amble up the outside stairs is fine for visitors. But in winter, with doors closed, we need a way for visitors to announce their arrival. Knocking on the front door may not elicit a response.
Mission accomplished. I got a few others bits and pieces too - including spray paint to spruce up some small step stools and a couple of other items. That will be my weekend project!
While there, I thought I'd get some masks as well - the sort you use when using spray paint. And, as the NZ Government is suggesting everyone stock up on masks - just in case - there was double purpose.
I don't think we're in too much danger of another wave here in NZ - I think it's more a case of the Government being sure that there won't be sudden panic buying or not enough to go around, if there is one. Good thinking. But I imagine that our grandchildren will find boxes of unused masks languishing in a cupboard, at some future date, and remember the pandemic days.
I picked up fish & chips in Warkworth and scoffed it immediately upon arrival. Blue cod - it was delicious. Dinner, sorted in a jiffy.
Watched a bit of tv. Lamented the shocking blast in Beirut. Shook my head about awful crash in the Tour of Poland bike race. Didn't think about Covid. Ate a chocolate fish.
It was an earlyish quiet night! Nice!
SHARE-NOTE OF THE DAY:
Flying fish ...
Not a whole more to report, so I'll post some pics of fish, including a flying one! Flying fish can reach heights over 1.2m and glide up to 200m above the surface. First, they pick up speed under water and then burst above the surface to take flight. Usually to avoid predators.
These photos were sent to me many years ago by a friend who's a commercial fisherman. Some quirky arty ones. Fun.
