Day 54, Level 1: Blob day, old TV shows and new WOW exhibition

For the first time in decades I did virtually nothing today! It was a real "blob" day. I don't recall the last time I did that i.e. virtually nothing!
Brett was playing in a golf tournament, and I'd been half thinking of heading to Omaha, but I couldn't be bothered. So I had a rare day off.
I spent most of the day lounging in or on the bed, watching tv, engaged with races, reading, patting the cat, grazing, doing puzzles ... I did no work whatsoever.
I checked my emails twice but did nothing with or about them.
I did clean the floors and bathrooms so I guess I did do work/chore.
But I did give my mind a high-grade rest!
Writing this blog post was about as arduous as today got, and given I love writing, and this is short, it wasn't very taxing.

Of course, the less I did, the less I felt like doing anything! Which was exactly the point!
I never had such a blobby slobby day even during lockdown! Not sure if it felt self-indulgent or downright slothful!

But, to be brutally honest, I don't think I could have lounged around in/on bed all day if there wasn't some great racing to be watching throughout the day.
I thought, why not lie back and relax and watch the action? So I did, along with other TV stuff.

OMG at one stage I was flicking around TV channels and ended up watching part of "Fantasy Island" (how fake were those sets and how slick was Mr Rourke!?) plus a whole episode of "I Dream of Jeannie". Oh how we all used to love to tune into those programmes the minute we got home from school. Along with the Partridge Family, the Brady Bunch, Gilligans Island, Happy Days, Bewitched, The Love Boat and more ...

It was amusing to see a rather good-looking if harried Larry Hagman - and watching the exotic Barbara Eden as Jeannie was both satisfying and irritating as she toyed with poor old Major Nelson. The storyline was utterly ridiculous (today's being appalling) but Jeannie always got the upper hand in right at the end and come-uppance was always in order for the show's "villain". In today's episode it was a hapless cop who ended up questioning just about everything about himself.

In effect, the show highlighted an early form of gaslighting in the strangest of ways! With a female in charge!
That's about as stretched as my thinking and analysis of life got today!

Back to 2020 - I watched a bit of All Round to Mrs Browns - very clever, great guests - and I love the "Guest Mammy" aspect. Chuckling is mandatory!

SHARE-NOTE OF THE DAY:
WOW ...
Two WOW things to share today.
Firstly, WOW have just announced they are holding a special Exhibition "Up Close" at Te Papa from 24th August to 9th October. I will be offering a special small-group fully-escorted 3-night tour to go to Wellington to visit this Exhibition, and experience other Wellington treats.

Wait a minute - actually I did do some work today - I did some research around how this trip will look! But that's passion, not so much work! Details will be on my Facebook page and website as soon as they're finalised. The exhibition itself will showcase winning garments through the years and also give  a behind-the-scenes never-been-seen-before glimpse into the show.
On my tour, I'll offer many insights from a designer's perspective. It will be a unique trip and I can assure everyone that seeing these garments up close is astounding. Beyond words! You have to be there and see the detail and intricate techniques.

Secondly ...
In the last couple of posts I've showcased my WOW garments from 2011 and 2012.
Here is one that was a joint collaboration with a creative friend, Sarah Jayne Kavali, accepted for the 2013 show. What a fabulous journey this joint creation was. Doing it as a team added many more layers and one of the hardest things was finding time when we were both available to work on it. We got together on Sunday afternoons for many weeks, whenever we could. Because we had such a united vision, it came to life reasonably easily but there were a few technical and logistical challenges during the whole process. It was made of plastic strapping and earbuds. With a lace mask headpiece. It had amazing movement and looked fabulous on stage.
