Day 4, Level 1: Shopping, Wispa Bars and Muriel
This afternoon I went to Snell's Beach - the The Warehouse to be precise.
I wanted to get a few things - kitchen things, household things, practical things that Omaha could do with. Let's just say I went a little overboard!
This was my first shopping expedition since before lockdown. I ambled up and down the aisles looking at stuff. Some of that stuff went in my trolley. Including, I am very happy to report, Wispa bars! They are my favourite (made by Cadbury) and I used to love them when I lived in London but for some bizarre and unknown reason they are not sold here in supermarkets or dairies along with all the usual chocolate bars.
I used to occasionally treat myself by popping into Pom's Away in Warkworth (not sure if the shop is still there) and buying one or two. They were about $5 each and I savoured every melting mouthful. A pack of 9 from The Warehouse - $5. Bargain. Threw a few packs in my trolley! I simply can't fathom why they're not available here along with Twirls and Flakes and everything else Cadbury makes.
This was my first trip to The Warehouse in years so it's not surprising I hadn't discovered this earlier. (For those overseas, The Warehouse is one of those huge shops that sells everything you can imagine).
Anyway, I now know where to get my Wispa fix for cheap!
I also spotted Matchmakers. Remember them!? OMG hadn't thought about them in years. So 1970s. Threw a pack of the mint ones in the trolley.
LUNCH: Egg mayo sandwich.
DINNER: Soup, curry (leftovers from last night)
I had a bit of a day off today - relaxed and read in the morning, shopped in the afternoon! Hardly went near the computer for the first time since lockdown began.
Tomorrow will be a work day ... with an eye on the races!
SHARE-NOTE OF THE DAY:
Muriel Abraham ...
It's three years today since Muriel, Brett's mum, died aged 97. That was a sad day. We had a great mother/daughter-in-law relationship. Some of my fondest and funniest memories of time spent with her are of a holiday in Tahiti we had in 2012 - Vicki (Brett's sister) and I took her on a cruise. She was 92. The stories are priceless, the memories to be cherished forever. She swam, she snorkeled, she sunbathed. She ate, drank and was merry. She overdid it at one point, had a bit of a turn and ended up in the medical centre on the boat. The doctor ordered her to slow down! We decided we'd better not take her jet-skiing the next day!
She absolutely loved every minute of it, and talked about it right up to her dying day.
