Day 25, Level 2: Pink Beach and Pym’s - TAKE 2!!!

Oh dear, something went amiss last night and my post got lost! Disappeared except for the first line. Dammit.

Let's start again ...

A leisurely Sunday morning - because I can, and I need to. Been a full on week prepping for EGGS AGM, actually, a full-on two weeks. It's like a full-time job around this time of year. And not so easy to do it remotely via laptop without a printer - but it's do-able and if persevering through, being a little under-resourced, means I get more days at Omaha, that's fine by me.
Have had to put my travel work on hold until this meeting is out of the way.

Brett and I walked all the way round to Pink Beach today - it's quite a mission and you can only do it when the tide is low and conditions are right. They were perfect, so we picked our way around the rocks to the beauty that is Pink Beach. A small beach, aptly named as the sand is ... pink. It's all crushed up pinky shells, quite unusual. Fortunately we'd both worn proper shoes rather than jandals - doing it in the latter is asking for trouble. Don't!

I remember trekking around there as a kid, and pretending we were shipwrecked and all that fun childhood stuff. You had to make sure you got out before the tide came in otherwise you'd be stuck there.
Sam and Michael used to enjoy poking around the pools when they were young.
Dad's ashes are scattered off Pink Beach.
Poignant memories.

The Ching mansion sits on the hill overlooking everything, what views they must get from up there. Shown in a photo below is just a small part of the house!

Later in the afternoon we headed back to the city - straight to Pym's of Milford - my sister Jacqui's new bar. Tonight was a friends/family gathering - a "soft" opening of sorts - to test the offering and the systems. It was full and busy and vibrant. Food and wine flowed and lots of conversation.
They have done a great job with the refit, it's light and crisp with a retro flavour, a great wine list and small menu of substantial tasty items. The pate is excellent!

With a few tweaks based on experience and feedback, they'll be up and running on Tuesday, just casually. And once Level 1 comes, open with fanfare!

If you're in the Milford neighbourhood and keen for a drink and nice platter or yummy burger - call in.

Good luck to Jacqui, Sarah and Craig with Milford's newest bar! Pym's of Milford.

Afterwards, Brett headed home and I stayed the night at Vicki & Lyle's as I'm heading straight back to Omaha in the morning. Had to leave Indi the cat up there as couldn't take her to the bar!

A successful night, and a relatively early one. I wrote up my blog on my iPad - and somehow it all got lost. Ah well, this is the rewrite.

SHARE-NOTE OF THE DAY:
Wine and its alcohol content ...
I always check the alcohol content of any bottle I buy. I try to go for 12.5% for a white; it's not common for a red although some Pinot Noirs fit the bill.  Most of the Aussie reds are a hefty 14.5% - shiraz, cabernet etc. I'll usually seek a 13% max for red.

I'm not a fan of the "light" low alcohol content whites - they may be down around 9% but they lose something of their flavour and I find them more tangy than tasty. My palate protests!

Overall, 12% - 13% is what I pick out if possible. The strength of each extra 0.5% of alcohol content seems to escalate exponentially in its "knocks your socks off" ability!

I'd rather have an extra glass of a less strong alcohol content - means more savouring to be done! And let's face it, wine is to be savoured!

We enjoyed a big Aussie shiraz at Pym's - with 14.5% alcohol content. Perhaps that why my blog got lost, haha ...!?!? No, we didn't over-indulge, it was all very civilised! But dang, that blog, where did it go ...!?!?

But here it is, take 2!
