Day 12, L3: (45 days since lockdown) - Saturday, Busy beach

Gosh today there were a LOT more people out and about than previously.
Many beach houses are suddenly occupied. The golf course is busy, the beach is busy, the roads are busy.
Omaha is a hive of activity way beyond what it's been for some time.
Lots of day trippers. And people coming to check on their bach.
Yes, it's the weekend - but aren't we still supposed to be in Level 3?!

Here's a photo of the Omaha Surf Club hut that has been empty for weeks.

Omaha Surf Club

I'd suggested yesterday to Brett that he come up for the weekend - he said he didn't want to flout the rules. Hmm, that's an interesting novelty especially given everyone else has flouted the rules! I think he wants to play golf on Sunday!

I have to say that the thought of going back to Auckland is somewhat horrific.
Anyone who knows me knows I'm a tried and true city lover; I thrive on the city vibe. London, Paris, NY, Moscow, Melbourne - take me there!
But Auckland ... well, even as an Aucklander, the city still has a way to go to induce me to love it like I love other cities in this world.

My dubiousness about Auckland is not about the place or natural environs, because it is a unique and beautiful part of the planet. It's about how poorly it's been developed and operated over so many decades that's the problem. The adolescent that wouldn't grow up or listen to the parents.
Let's hope the Covid shake-up enables Auckland to become the city of excellence it can truly be. I sure hope it fulfils its potential - but everything is balancing on the edge.

I've been privileged to enjoy isolation in beautiful isolation. And whereas once upon a time I could have thought of nothing worse than spending months at Omaha (letalone living here) - it now has an appeal that shouldn't be too hard to explain! It's Auckland that leaves me cold!
However, I'll head back next week and am looking forward to some social interaction and catching up with people.

During my mid-morning beach walk today I was interested to note that a lot of people had set up camp on the beach for the day - even though it was unpleasantly windy down there (no wind elsewhere, just on the beach).

Presumably these people flocking to the beach were from the locale doing a Saturday morning escapade. Surely not Aucklanders? The car park was 3/4 full - for the first time in weeks but it was the worst beach day for some time with that pesky wind blowing.

At home, a south-easterly wind doesn't affect us one bit so I could have every door and window wide open (rare).
Oh what amazing weather. Is winter actually coming?

I went to Matakana to get some supplies.
Worked during the afternoon.
Eye on the Australian races.

LUNCH: German rye bread with Emmenthal cheese (superb). It's even better with blue cheese (my evening snack!)
DINNER: Chicken teriyaki on rice - with asparagus and Kewpie mayo (yum!)

SHARE-NOTE OF THE DAY:

Sam rang at 12:03am - wished me Happy Mothers Day! I hadn't posted this post yet so technically doesn't relate - but it does as I'm writing this post as he rings.  I suspect he'll be the first overseas kid to wish their mother a happy MDay.  He told me to go to bed - and yes, I'm tired so I will.
More about this in tomorrow's post.
