Day Twenty-One - Inside at home, Outside in Dorset

Today's post is short.
The beach photo is of a fabulous beach in Dorset.

I worked all day long today, from 9-5, with little respite.
Not that unusual but getting out and about today wasn't an easy option.
I didn't make it to the beach.
I didn't even go outside.
Actually, I didn't even go downstairs.
All day long.
I was busy. It was fine. I was productive. That's all good.

The weather was kinda gloomy and changeable.
Not horrible, but not nice.

So today's beach photo is not of Omaha but of a lovely beach on the other side of the world ... West Bay, Dorset - scene of Broadchurch, TV show.
My friend lives near here and it's a very stunning piece of UK coastline that I got to enjoy in Oct 2017. Strolling along this beach was invigorating and the surroundings are utterly astounding. Nature and history combine.
I love NZ beaches but having been to many UK beaches, there is no doubt that they can captivate just as much as, if not more than, NZ beaches.

Reality - any beach anywhere in the world is stunning!

West Beach, Dorset - stunning coastline

Lunch: a hurried filled roll
Dinner: roast butterflied chicken with roast potato, kumara, parsnip, onion - and beans. Michael carved the chicken. The whole meal was bloody delicious, just what we felt like. Stock is brewing ...

So what was I busy doing today?
Minutes. I do a bit of contract work doing Board Secretariat stuff, minutes and the like. Sometimes I go to the meetings, but now, of course, they're online or I work off audio digital files.
The meeting I covered today was mainly Covid-related discussion, as most have been over recent times. Interesting stuff. Keeps me busy, fills gaps.
Some years back I did a lot of global transcription/editing work but gave it away as the pay was pitiful and it was very intensive work. Still, I got to learn a lot about all sorts of industries in all corners of the world. Waste-water in India, TV in Singapore, public transport in Australia ... it was great to get an inside view into all sorts of things.

While the Board stuff can be intensive, it's kind of second nature to me. I've been in and around, or on, Boards most of my life.
One thing the work does require is exceptional listening and interpretive skills. It's surprisingly hard work listening to every single word and nuance, especially when you don't know about the industry or issues. Even trickier when you haven't met the people. When you do this type of work, missing a beat is not an option. It has certainly taught me to not only listen well in life, but to actually hear (and there's a big difference) what people say.
If I'm not talking myself, haha!!!

SHARE-NOTE OF THE DAY:
Found out today that a lovely guy I worked with in London died of Covid - he'd been working in New York for the UN, and just retired. Went to visit his mum in the UK. Now dead.
Even though it was 30+ years ago since I worked with him, I remember him. He's the first person I've actually known in life who has died of Covid. Hopefully also the last.
Shocking.

Apart from this, I have nothing much to report.
Stay safe.
