Day Seven - Short ... and Sweet

A new month of a new phase ... and the world being in lockdown is no April Fools joke!

So today is about SHORT ...

Puppies: The birth of puppies referred to in yesterday's post duly arrived overnight. It turned out to be quite an ordeal for all, ending in a C-section performed under strict Covid rules in the dark of night. And there were 9 pups, not the anticipated 8 that the x-ray showed. All are well - and now the real fun begins!

Work: Most of the day Michael and I sat at opposite ends of the dining table working away.
Michael (works in honey industry - see more info below) had month-end stuff nailed yesterday (busy) so today wasn't quite so fraught for him.
I'm working on various projects (more in a future post).
Check in with Brett (on speaker phone on the deck in the sunshine while he scoffed hot cross buns for afternoon tea on the deck at home) revealed a few technical hitches. I offered a solution to one and hope he can the others fixed.

Birds: With little traffic or activity, birdlife in the neighbourhood has burgeoned - particularly doves. Birds are fluttering around the trees like I haven't seen in a long time. They are also eating the grass seed Brett planted a few weeks ago and I'm trying to water, with some difficulty (the oscillator is broken and I'm mindful we're on tank water, here with little rain forecast).
I also wonder how those godwits are feeling, now they will have reached Alaska!

Exercise: Take care if you're out walking or cycling or jogging - now is not the time to break a bone or end up in hospital. Refer my Bones post from yesterday and valuable website: www.bones.org.nz

$$$: Re my rant about money and profit in yesterday's post - well, how heartened was I to hear towards the end of today that a group of billionaires have collaborated to order hordes of PPE gear for our country! Yahoo. This is invaluable use of those billions and a reason for some people to acquire them! I'm not expecting the conglomerates to be doing the same any time soon though ...

PPE: Meanwhile, I'm still receiving daily emails encouraging me to mass-purchase masks, sanitizers, hand driers, ventilators and all manner of protective Covid gear - this, from a company in China that I initially made an enquiry with about scarves last winter!! Scarves/masks - not quite the same, but headgear I guess! I've received photographs of just about every aspect of production and it looks like top notch gear. Perhaps I'll pass the info to Graeme Hart, the Mowbrays and co ... in case we need zillions more!

Dinner: Felafels on rice, with the last of our fresh salad stuff! Supermarket tomorrow!

And SWEET ...

I'm talking Honey!
Michael works in the honey industry - for Manukora. The name is derived from MANUKA and ORA, being the Maori word for life, health and vitality. It also happens to be that "Or" is the French word for gold - and yes, there is gold in Manuka! And plenty of hard work.
Manukora produce a range that includes a 24+ UMF version - seriously top of the line and rare. Michael is involved in the operations side of things. Exporting this liquid gold keeps the small team busy.
Manukora honey is not available off the shelf but you can get it online.
Check them out https://manukora.com/

SHARE-NOTE OF THE DAY:
CLOUDS!
Not many people on the beach during my mid-afternoon stroll, so in the interest of new perspectives I took more notice of the clouds. There were some incredible formations: some almost close enough to touch, some fluffy like cotton wool, some whiter than white, and some spread across the sky in a brooding and forboding way. Some looked like animals and made me smile. All captured below.

Out to sea, it appeared as if Hauturu (aka Little Barrier Island) was erupting with cloud billowing out. In all my years of looking out towards it, I've never seen anything like that. It was a sight as surreal as life feels right now.

A lamb frolicking? Or is it a poodle?
