Day Two - bagels, baking and the beach - it's not all bad!

A beautiful morning turned into a somewhat dull day with a few spits of rain appearing now and again. Michael went for his morning run, and we've both been flat out on our computers most of the day. Michael works in the honey industry - more on that in a future post - and I've been writing.

Brunch was mashed avo on bagels, crafted by Mike.
We watched the 1pm live update.

My baking isn't up to much, but I decided to whip up a batch of triple chocolate brownies - with Betty Crocker's assistance! Even though I only had to add eggs and butter and beat with a wooden spoon, I wasn't quite sure how they would turn out, using new oven, limited baking equipment at beach house, no kitchen scales, etc.
As it turned out, they were just the right amount of chewy and tasted jolly good. Thumbs up from Mike. Ideal for afternoon tea - which I never usually have! And plenty more for scoffing tomorrow.

We had a check-in with Brett who had commandeered my office chair and, while I find it comfortable enough, he does not. He suggested I had more padding than him and he probably has a point!

We watched the 3pm live update. Is this going to be the pattern of things ...?

A young lad skateboarded along the road, two cars and a security van drove past, a woman walked her dog and Indi the cat went off to her hiding place and duly returned. But apart from that, there was very little action on Darroch Slope today.

While the place is a bit like ghost-town, there's a reasonable population of residents who live up here permanently so there is life going on behind closed doors. It's also evident that quite a few people have decided to SISO at their holiday homes up here, as many are occupied. You can tell by the open windows, not much else.

I took a walk to the beach at 5pm, and it was a picture. Mostly people walking 2 by 2. Some people were in swimming - I thought you weren't supposed to! Mike, a keen golfer, knocked off after a busy day and went to hit some golf balls, solo, at the pitching green.

Dinner was crispy noodle chicken satay concoction with me on duty.

SHARE-NOTE OF THE DAY:
A music focus today ...

Check out this story about young Auckland singer-songwriter Grace Kelly who has just released her debut EP 'before.' - five catchy upbeat feel-good songs.

I first knew Grace when she was 10 and a member of "Enchanted", a group of young singers from Victoria Avenue School that I worked with (along with singer/songwriter Paul Walker) for two years back in 2012 & 2013. Gosh, was it that long ago!? The girls practised once a week at my house, performed at a variety of venues (including my 50th!) and also recorded some songs.

Grace's natural musical talent was apparent from the get-go and her star quality shone brightly back then. She was a huge Taylor Swift fan and could belt out any song with ease. Grace is now 17, and although she and her voice have matured, she still has the same genuine joie de vivre she had back then. And now a focus on country music.
Unfortunately some upcoming gigs she had lined up (including one at Leigh Sawmill this weekend which I would have gone to) have been canned due to COVID restrictions but you can find her online.

Grace, you really are the singer-songwriter you always wanted to be, and I always believed you would become. I hope those Enchanted days helped you on your journey and I wish you all the best for a long and happy music career!
