Day Five - Inside Outside - new era Omaha house!

The internet went down last night - but thankfully not until after I'd had a Facetime chat with my friend Lyn who lives in Dorset, UK. She showed me the fab retro-style interior of an old dolls house that she's doing up. Rather apt, as you'll see when you get to today's Share-Note.

This morning the internet was intermittent and rain fell quite heavily.
The recycling and rubbish trucks came.
Michael had a busy work day. Went for a run at 6pm.
I've done a bit of catch-up and planning stuff.
Toasties for lunch. Nachos for dinner.

I kept my early afternoon walk to the beach rather short. A strange kind of feeling down there today, very different to yesterday. The place was almost deserted apart from a dad and four kids having some fun, a guy walking/swimming with his dog and a woman doing a slow power walk.

The sand on the foreshore had been sculpted by the sea, there was an onshore breeze and the water was a little chillier than it has been. Being the outgoing tide, the waves were creating an interesting backwash effect amongst themselves.

SHARE-NOTE OF THE DAY:
On the subject of retro interiors ... our 45 year old beach house had a makeover last year. What began as a bit of a renovation ended up being a major rebuild. It took longer and cost more than anticipated (of course!) and was ready just in time for Christmas (phew).

Let me share some photos of, firstly, the "old era" Omaha - upstairs.

There's some landscaping work to be done in due course. But meanwhile, virtually everything inside and out is brand new, and the decks provide ideal outdoor living spaces. Easy beachside living ...

I'll post some photos of downstairs, and also a few of the rebuild in progress, in another post.

A shortish post today. It was the most splendid weather imaginable. Like summer, only better. Shame we can't swim. Today felt more leisurely than most, due I guess to the weather - although I spent most of the day working away on my laptop. I went for a fantastic beach walk around midday, my longest to date, and, for the first time since this whole thing, it really did feel "holiday-ish", for that hour at least. Warm and beautiful - and the light was exceptional. Every shade of blue surrounded me. The sky was cobalt blue one way, tinged with muted turquoise tones another. Today was an autumn day as good as it ever gets. There were plenty of  birds and quite a lot of people out walking. There was someone in the water up to their waist - I think they were gathering pipi or tuatua. Day Twenty - Wind, Wine and Tour Leading

What a windy day! A very wicked wind swirled in all directions all day. Squalls of rain came across every so often. There were many pockets of sunshine but always that wind. I didn't go to the beach today - mainly coz I just couldn't be bothered! I did drive to Matakana for supplies, it was a reasonably relaxed experience although they were low on a bit of stock. I got the last decent box of tissues (no point in small 1-ply rubbish!) Needed a loo paper top up. Another woman and I probably got a bit too close in the wine aisle. She highly recommended the Hunting Lodge "Lustrous" Chardonnay she'd tried last week. I popped a bottle in my trolley. I recommended the Hunting Lodge "Silky" Pinot Noir I'd tried last week. She popped one in her trolley. "I'll feel embarrassed going up to the checkout with all these bottles," she said. Day 86, Level 1: Another post! Rain! And crawdads!

Ok so I have done another post (it's become a habit, and habits are hard to break!) But do check back about my next blog ... it's coming Oh how it rained today. On and off, all day long. Heavy rain.  The day was a mix of sunshine and rain - often in huge deluges that hit the deck like the wrath of the gods. The tanks and plants loved every drop of it! And then - by evening - blissful sunlight with golden hued clouds.  And thus is the weather these days ... It blows away the cobwebs and rubbish ...! 6.11pm SHARE-NOTE OF THE DAY: "Where the Crawdads Sing" ... Now here's a book worth reading. I don't read a lot these days, mostly write.  But a friend lent me this - and it was right up my alley.  Different, refreshing, and with a fabulous sting in its tail.  A story about humanity and nature that touches on just about everything life offers.  Gentleness meets resilience. Innocence meets revenge. Oh it's a good story.  I am so looking forward to the movie ....
