Day Five - Inside Outside - new era Omaha house!

The internet went down last night - but thankfully not until after I'd had a Facetime chat with my friend Lyn who lives in Dorset, UK. She showed me the fab retro-style interior of an old dolls house that she's doing up. Rather apt, as you'll see when you get to today's Share-Note.

This morning the internet was intermittent and rain fell quite heavily.
The recycling and rubbish trucks came.
Michael had a busy work day. Went for a run at 6pm.
I've done a bit of catch-up and planning stuff.
Toasties for lunch. Nachos for dinner.

I kept my early afternoon walk to the beach rather short. A strange kind of feeling down there today, very different to yesterday. The place was almost deserted apart from a dad and four kids having some fun, a guy walking/swimming with his dog and a woman doing a slow power walk.

The sand on the foreshore had been sculpted by the sea, there was an onshore breeze and the water was a little chillier than it has been. Being the outgoing tide, the waves were creating an interesting backwash effect amongst themselves.

SHARE-NOTE OF THE DAY:
On the subject of retro interiors ... our 45 year old beach house had a makeover last year. What began as a bit of a renovation ended up being a major rebuild. It took longer and cost more than anticipated (of course!) and was ready just in time for Christmas (phew).

Let me share some photos of, firstly, the "old era" Omaha - upstairs.

There's some landscaping work to be done in due course. But meanwhile, virtually everything inside and out is brand new, and the decks provide ideal outdoor living spaces. Easy beachside living ...

I'll post some photos of downstairs, and also a few of the rebuild in progress, in another post.

Another glorious day in lockdown - I'm talking about the weather! Again, today was mostly spent on the computer being gently productive. I brought some art stuff up with me, but I haven't done any painting. Not yet, anyway. Perhaps over the weekend ... I went for a twilight walk to the beach at 5pm, it was absolutely beautiful down there with interesting cloud banks and sky of a cerulean blue hue with a lemon tinge that spread far into outer space. Day 51, Level 1: For the love of Skiing, Heavenly Lake Tahoe, and Pita bread

Day 51 of level 1 ... It's kind of a meaningless reference these days. No one refers to levels any more in NZ! We're just living life - a little differently. Eyes are turning to the NZ election, coming up on 19th September. Already, the political fisticuffs are out, and shambles is being well and truly spread across the floors of parliament for the unwary to slip on, slither over and end up in. Surely the slopes of parliament can't get any steeper or slipperier? But they will. Meanwhile, it's winter in NZ - and talking of slippery slopes ... people here have been enjoying the skifields which were very busy during the school holidays. There's plenty of snow in the south, but ideally more is required in the central North Island at Mt Ruapehu to get it up to full speed. Being a rocky volcano, the mountain needs good coverage to get fully operational. It's best for spring skiing, with bluebird days and corn snow, so patience is a virtue. Michael went down to ski Mt

Day 12, Level 3: Still in L3, lilac flower, romping dog and starry sky

Today's big announcement came at 3pm - and Auckland will remain in Level 3 for another four days, until 11:59pm on Sunday night. The rest of the country stays in Level 2. There's not a lot of clarity but it seems that even when Auckland goes to L2 on Monday, there will still be restrictions on gatherings - maximum of ten people, which is likely to remain in place until 6th September.  This is bad news for those in hospitality i.e. my sister and her bar Pym's of Milford. It's also not good for the likes of me in travel. But, like a good jockey, we'll ride this out and hopefully get past the post in good shape. Masks will become compulsory on public transport. And encouraged in every other sphere of life. Finally! It's virtually impossible to plan anything. And there's no point in dreaming up anything to plan. For someone like me, this is very difficult.  I suggest that "Impromptu" is going to become the new modus operandus . Which is okay for me as
